Lichens and Lore at Castle Semple
Join us at Loch Semple to discover the secrets of the Collegiate Chuch and Auld Simon - including the amazing array of lichens which can be found growing on the stonework!
This unique event combines guided walks, led by the Castle Semple rangers, with a lichen identification and recording workshop, to bring you an experience steeped in natural and cultural heritage.
Our workshop will suit anyone with an interest in learning more about lichens - all that's required is enthusiasm! Whether you're a lichen aficionado or a total newbie, we'd love to have you along.
• Discover 500 years of history on guided walks led by Castle Semple Rangers
• Learn how to identify some of the common lichens found growing on old stone buildings in a dedicated workshop led by a lichen expert
• Share your finds in our national database, to contribute to our understanding of the unique interplay between natural and cultural heritage
When: 28th August, 10am - 3pm
Where: Meet Loch Semple Carpark, near the Visitor Centre
Bring your own: Lunch! There will be limited access to refreshment facilities, so we also recommend bringing snacks and a drink.
This event includes around 3 miles of walking on tracks and paths. We will progress at a leisurely pace, but there are some uphill sections, and sturdy outdoor footwear is recommended for any muddy areas.
There will be access to the toilets at Castle Semple during lunch.
