Meet our new Garnock Connectors!
We’ve had quite a turnaround in our team over the past month or so. Emma and Gemma, who had been our Wildlife Recording and Volunteer Engagement Assistants respectively, came to the end of their contracts and have set off for pastures new. Both did some amazing work during their time at Garnock Connections, supporting volunteer groups, delivering wildlife recording events and so much more.
Sad as it may have been to say goodbye, we’ve had three new additions in recent weeks to temper the blow:
First, Denize Jacques has joined the team in the role of Oral History Assistant. Having worked for Historic Environment Scotland all over the country, Denize will now be gathering stories from the industrial and cultural history of the Garnock Connections landscape. If you head on over to the Working Voices project page, you’ll get a feel for the kind of things she’ll be doing.
Joining at the same time, Katie Haffie is our new Digital Skills Assistant. Given how the world has changed over the last year, digital communication has become more important than ever. Having previously worked with the National Trust for Scotland, Katie will now be driving our online presence, with a focus on social media and delivering digital events.
And last but not least, our new Wildlife Recording Assistant is Miriam Lord. Miriam is passionate about all things wildlife, having volunteered with organisations including RSPB Scotland, the British Trust for Ornithology and Butterfly Conservation. She’ll be using that passion to inspire others through a series of community engagement events, as she takes over our Go Wild in Garnock project.
All three are joining as part of our Heritage Trainees project, helping them develop the skills and experience necessary to build a career in the heritage sector.
We’re still not sure exactly what the next few months will hold, but we’re delighted to welcome our new colleagues, whose enthusiasm will no doubt spur us on whatever happens. Check out the project pages for more information, or keep an eye on our news and social media channels to see what Denize, Katie and Miriam are getting up to.
