Working Voices

Here in Ayrshire we know we’ve a strong and fascinating maritime heritage from shipbuilding through to folk travelling ‘doon the watter’.

But we haven't had a real shared story of personal and community memories of living and working around maritime industries in the area.

The Working Voices oral history project set out to change this.

We had a fantastic response to the Working Voices project and heard some amazing stories about our maritime heritage like the two below

Did you know?

Get Involved

If you worked in local (the Irvine, Ardeer, Ardrossan and Saltcoats areas) maritime or water-based industries – a shipyard, harbour, engineering firm or smithy for example – or have memories of community life around these industries, please get in touch.
